How to Color Blue Tiles

Tile patterns add elegance and charm to any coloring page, especially when they feature symmetrical and geometric designs. If you’ve ever wanted to create 3D tiles with depth and realistic highlights, this tutorial is for you!

Today, we’re using a background illustration from the Little Fuzzy by Southern Lotus Coloring Book, available on our website and Amazon - featuring adorable animals in their cozy homes. Follow this step-by-step guide to achieve a stunning blue tile effect with your Ohuhu markers.

Materials You’ll Need:

- Ohuhu Markers (BG3, B090, PB6)

- A fine liner pen for outlining tiles

- White gel pen for highlights

- A coloring page with a tiled background (from Little Fuzzy Coloring Book)

Step-by-Step Guide to Coloring Tiles

Step 1: Draw the Tile Frames

Before coloring, use a fine liner pen to draw the frame of each tile. This helps maintain a symmetrical and clean look for your geometric design.

Note: Make sure the squares are evenly spaced for a realistic tiled wall effect.

Step 2: Base Layer with BG3

Now, cover each tile with a base layer using BG3. Apply smooth, even strokes to prevent streaks and ensure a polished look.

Step 3: Add Patterns with B090

Using B090, carefully draw symmetrical patterns on each tile square. You can create floral, mandala-inspired, or simple geometric shapes. This is where you bring your creativity to life!

Step 4: Re-frame with PB6

Take PB6 and trace the edges of each tile to make the shapes pop. This gives a bold and defined look, making the tiles appear more structured.

Keep your lines steady to enhance the 3D effect.

Step 5: Add Highlights with a White Gel Pen

To create a realistic shine, use a white gel pen to add small highlights along the edges of each tile. This will mimic the reflection of light, giving your tiles a glossy finish.

Tip: Less is more! Just a few highlights can make a big difference.

Step 6: Extra Details for More Depth

For an extra touch, take B090 again and draw a + shape in the center of each tile. This adds more detail and makes the tile pattern stand out.

To make your pattern even more dynamic, dot a few highlights on the + shape using the white gel pen. This small detail enhances the realism and shine of your design.
