Step 1: Sketch the Moss
Begin by lightly sketching the moss placement on the rock with a pencil. This will guide where the green moss will be added later.
Step 2: Color the Rock Base
Start by applying the darkest shade, WG090, to define the deepest shadows and crevices of the rock.
Step 3: Add Midtone Layers
Use WG070 to blend over the previous layer and soften the edges, creating a smooth transition in tones.
Step 4: Highlight with Lightest Shade
Apply CG030 to the areas where the rock is more exposed to light. This step brings dimension and texture.
Step 5: Blend for a Natural Look
Go over the rock again with all three shades (WG090, WG070, CG030) to achieve a seamless and realistic stone texture.
Step 6: Create the Moss Base
Using G080, apply a light layer to establish the mossy areas on the rock. This color acts as the foundation for the greenery.
Step 7: Add Moss Details
To create a lush moss texture, add small dots and strokes with GY2, GY1, and G390. This layering technique gives a soft and natural look.
Step 8: Add Highlights
Finally, use a white acrylic pen to add small highlights on the moss and rock. This will enhance the texture and bring out the brightness.
Your mossy rock is now complete! The blending of grays and greens creates a realistic, natural effect that makes the artwork pop.
