4 Ways to Draw Sky: Relaxing Coloring Page for Adults to Practice

Southern Lotus presents four methods for coloring the sky, each with its own unique charm and character. In the warm world of coloring, the sky is never just a background; it is the heart that breathes life into your entire page. Whether vibrant with sunset light, shimmering with shooting stars, or filled with fluffy white clouds, the sky determines the mood for your story.

Today, Southern Lotus introduces four ways to color the sky, each bringing its own unique charm and character.

1. How to Color a Sunset Sky

A sunset sky evokes the feeling of a warm embrace at the end of the day.

It shines softly with tones of orange and purple, enveloping everything in peace and tranquility. This type of sky is perfect for scenes of cozy homes, wide open fields, or quiet moments for reflection.

  1. Use orange (YR070) and purple (V160) markers to color different areas of the sky. These two shades will create a soft, dreamy gradient effect.
  2. Use a yellow brush marker (Y1) to blend the orange and purple smoothly. Once dry, use an acrylic brush pen to draw fluffy clouds.
  3. Use a pink acrylic marker (N504) and draw soft shadows beneath each cloud to make them appear three dimensional.
  4. Add a layer of purple shadow (M712) at the bottom of the clouds for depth. Use a white pen (101) to draw scattered stars or a small moon for a magical accent.

2. How to Color a Magical Sky

This sky uses a dominant dark purple tone, bringing a feeling of fantasy, magic, and the mystery of the night.

The clouds are not darkened but, conversely, emit a brilliant light from within. It creates a star-filled space with unique suspended details, making it a perfect choice for Fantasy coloring pages.

  1. Color the entire sky with a dark purple (R17) as the base. Then, blend with a lighter purple (V160) near the cloud edges.
  2. Use pink (RV030) and yellow (Y121) markers to shade the clouds, giving them a brilliant, golden glow.
  3. Use a white acrylic marker (101) to softly outline the clouds, making them stand out against the dark background.
  4. Draw small stars suspended on the clouds and scatter tiny white dots around to mimic stardust in the sky.

3. How to Color Fluffy Clouds

This sky brings the bright, peaceful, and optimistic feeling of a beautiful sunny day.

The stark, fluffy white clouds are the highlight, creating a perfect contrast with the vibrant blue of the sky. This is a classic sky type, easy to apply to most daytime landscape coloring pages, providing clarity and liveliness.

  1. Start by lightly sketching a large, soft cloud with a pencil (HB).
  2. Color the sky area with a blue marker (PB9) to create a smooth, cheerful background.
  3. Use a light blue marker (B030) to randomly draw soft shadows inside the clouds, giving them volume and depth.
  4. Finish by using a white pen (101) to add light reflections, small stars, or gentle curves to enhance the fluffiness of the clouds.

4. How to Color Shooting Stars

A shooting star sky evokes a sense of mystery yet is full of hope a place where dreams and light cut through the darkness. Quiet, beautiful, and timeless, like a whispered wish in the night.

  1. Blend three shades of blue (B440, B350, B070) from top to bottom, darkest at the top and lightest near the horizon. This will create a sense of the night's depth.
  2. Using a white acrylic marker (101), draw a bright dot in the sky, then gently smudge it with your finger to create a glowing shooting star tail.
  3. Repeat the same process with dots of different sizes and angles to make the stars look vivid and natural.
  4. Add a large star in front of the streak, then fill the sky with smaller, sparkling white stars to complete the scene.
