How to Color a Mossy Tree

A mossy tree can add a timeless and enchanting feel to your coloring pages, perfect for creating a magical forest vibe! Today, we’ll be working on a page from the "Fresh Glow" coloring book, illustrated by Southern Lotus Coloring Book, to bring the natural beauty of a mossy tree to life using Ohuhu Markers. Follow this step-by-step tutorial to achieve a realistic woodgrain effect and a soft, natural mossy texture!

Materials Needed:

- "Fresh Glow" Coloring Book by Southern Lotus Coloring Book

- Ohuhu Markers (E240, E430, Y9, G8, G5)

- White and Yellow Acrylic Pens (for highlights)

Step-by-Step Guide

Step 1: Cover the Base Layer with E240

Begin by applying E240 evenly across the entire tree trunk. This light brown base will set the foundation for the woodgrain effect and provide a natural undertone for the tree.

Step 1 - Base Layer

Step 2: Create Woodgrain Effect

Using the same E240 marker, draw thin, wavy lines along the trunk to mimic natural woodgrain patterns. Vary the curves and lengths of the lines to achieve a realistic bark texture.

Step 2 - Woodgrain Effect

Step 3: Add Shadows with E430 and Y9

Enhance the depth and dimension of the tree by adding shadows with E430 and Y9. Focus on the nooks and crannies of the woodgrain lines and along the base of the trunk to create a 3D effect.

Step 3 - Add Shadows

Step 4: Color Mossy Areas with G8

Apply G8 to the designated mossy areas of the tree trunk. Use gentle, even strokes to create a soft and natural mossy base that complements the brown of the tree bark.

Step 4 - Mossy Areas

Step 5: Add Moss Texture with G8 and G5

Use G8 and G5 to dot small patches of moss randomly across the tree trunk. The dotting technique helps create a natural, spongy texture, making the moss appear soft and full.

Step 5 - Moss Texture

Step 6: Highlight the Moss with White and Yellow Acrylic Pen

Finish by adding highlights to the moss using a white and yellow acrylic pen. Draw tiny dots and lines along the edges of the moss to mimic light reflections, giving the moss a dewy and fresh appearance.

Step 6 - Highlights

Final Step: Your Timeless Mossy Tree in a Magical Land is Done!

Your page now features a realistic and enchanting mossy tree that adds a magical and serene vibe to your coloring project. This technique is perfect for creating woodland scenes and works beautifully with the nature-inspired designs in the Southern Lotus Coloring Book.
