How To Color Puddle: Cozy Times Coloring Book

Nothing makes a rainy day more beautiful than sparkling puddles.

This warm puddle coloring guide will show you how to create glowing water and soft rain ripples, inspired by an adorable page from the Cozy Times Coloring Book.

Instead of just simple coloring, we'll learn how to combine different pens to create realistic effects that make the puddle sparkle like magic.

Materials You'll Need

  • A rainy coloring page from the Cozy Times Coloring Book
  • Ohuhu alcohol markers:
    • YO30 Light Yellow
    • G420 Light Green
    • BG68 Light Blue
  • White and blue acrylic paint pens
  • White gel pen

Step by Step Puddle Coloring Guide

Step 1: Map the Light with YO30

Step 1

Lightly tap YO30 where you want to create a warm, reflective effect on the wet ground. Keep the shapes soft and cloud like. These will become the sparkling light patches that shine through the green later.

This creates warm patches of light that shine through the grassy tones, a classic technique in any puddle coloring guide. The yellow underpainting adds a sun kissed, reflective effect to the puddles and helps the ground look flat.

Step 2: Color the Background with G420

Step 2

Next, use the G420 marker to color the entire background. Be sure to layer the green over the yellow patches from Step 1 to create a blending effect. Color using small oval strokes to avoid streaks. Keep a light hand where the green meets the yellow.

Step 3: Intensify Color and Blending

Step 3

Add another layer of both YO30 and G420 to blend them together better. This makes the background smoother and more realistic.

This technique is perfect for a puddle coloring page. This thin wash melts the seam and creates a soft glow that looks just like light reflecting after the rain.

Step 4: Fill the Puddles with BG68

Step 4

Color the puddle shape with BG68. The cool blue creates an instant contrast between the warm ground and the water, highlighting the puddle's depth.

Leave a small, lighter crescent shape near the edge to suggest a reflection of the sky. Pull the strokes from the light area into the darker area to keep the edges soft.

Step 5: Create Ripples and Reflections

Step 5a
Step 5b

Use white and blue acrylic pens to go over the dark lines on the puddle's edge and the inner details where you want to create a bright reflective effect. Redraw the soft white border and a few rippling curves.

Step 6: Add Details and Highlights

Step 6a
Step 6b

Use a white gel pen to add highlights and prominent details on the water's surface, making the puddle sparkle even more. Finally, use a white acrylic pen to draw small raindrops falling on the water and around the drawing.
